Our trip to Honduras wasn’t only for the sewing school graduation. Although we didn’t build any buildings, we did build relationships. We touched many lives in just two weeks. While in Le Ceiba, we took a trip to Niduermas, a village 1 ½ hours east to visit with the seventeen women there who want to go to sewing school. Some of those women walked 2 ½ hours, just to meet us and show us how interested they were in the program. It was a good day of fellowship. We also held a day of Bible School in Mt. Hebron for children and adults alike. This is where I could really notice the difference in the women. They were very helpful with keeping the children quiet and behaved. A few of them even got bags and gathered up the litter after snack!
We visited several churches while there, Sambo Creeek United Brethren and Bethel United Brethren. We spent an evening with Roger Reeck and Tio Archie, which is always a pleasure. Maria, the sewing teacher, and her husband Oscar also joined us for a wonderful home cooked meal.
Since we were on a “Encouragement” Mission we looked for ways to encourage some of the people we have come to know. The Eden family is one family we felt needed some encouragement, although they have always been great encouragers to us when we come to Le Ceiba. Their oldest son, Edward had just graduated from University and was job searching. He was having some difficulty because he didn’t have transportation. Since we obviously could not buy him a car, we opted for a bicycle instead. And while we were at it, why not get one for Mr. Eden also? The entire family was without transportation, so the men took them to town and helped them pick out two bicycles. They were very grateful to God for this gift.
Of course we visited “Wall Street” or La Pedera and distributed bread and peanut butter to each family. While we were there we noticed a young boy whose foot was severely infected, almost to the point of being gangrenous. Barb could not let that pass without offering help so she contacted Roger Reeck who brought a Doctor to see the boy. We paid for the medication needed to heal the wound.
The men did some work at the United Brethren Church Camp and fixed the plumbing at the Compound. They also did some small jobs out at Mt. Hebron.
The folks at Mt. Hebron have decorated the church there with much love. They made it beautiful inside with what they had to give.
After just 4 days in Le Ceiba, we headed for Yoro. Up in the mountains, this little town sits in a bowl, completely surrounded by mountains. It would be beautiful if not so drenched in poverty. That doesn’t stop the people from being beautiful or thankful.

Here, with the luxury of an interpreter, George, we held a Sunday school at a preaching point way out in the mountains, Bible School, Children’s Church, a ladies Bible Study and Wednesday night worship. All these were very well attended and much appreciated.
